You will be made to feel very welcome at all the events however, if you're worried about turning up for the first time just contact me and I'll meet up with you before hand :)

Please note: Posters are usually put up on the community centre doors for events, so it's always worth having a look there to see if anything's coming up.

Wednesdays - regular event - Dance sessions to learn Scottish and Bulgarian folk dancing.

Each session will run from 11am till 12 noon and will comprise a half hour session learning Scottish folk dancing (taught by Jan) followed by half an hour mastering some Bulgarian moves (led by Dobrina and Deshka). It's all a bit of light hearted fun to get the muscles moving again after the winter hibernation, and absolutely NO previous experience required. Wear comfortable clothing possibly with thin cardies/jumpers which can be added/removed depending on the weather. These sessions have now finished for the summer.

Monday and Thursday 11am The Baba's folk group have their singing rehearsals at this time (usually!), so anyone interested in learning some of the traditional songs might like to join in. There are print outs of the words to the songs.

October 21st, 11am-2pm Roseville UK Food are due to hold their monthly shop in the village square from which you can purchase delights from the homeland such as Marmite, bacon, Heinz soups, baking ingredients and much more. Full details, prices and orders can be made through their Facebook page (click here for the link)

13th October Cricket Match. The Bulgarian sports minister is keen to promote cricket in Bulgaria so to that end there will be a demonstration match between a team made up of our very own locals, and the team from the Bulgarian National Sports Academy in Sofia. The match starts at 11am down on the stadium in Gostilitsa.

14th October Horse Power! The first of what will hopefully be a huge annual music festival, aimed at putting Gostilitsa firmly on the map. This year it is combined with an international horse endurance competition, with horses being ridden over 15km, 20km and 30km courses in the surrounding countryside. Alongside this there will be fun and games down on the sports field during the afternoon - welly wanging, tin can alley, guess the weight of the cake to win it, arm wrestling, dog shows and a hundred other things. Then moving into the main rock concert in the evening featuring headline bands - No Limitts, Little Big Band, and Milena Slavova. And all for free! Though do bring along plenty of spare change to take part in the games and to enjoy the plentiful food and drink. Click for link to Facebook with lots more information.

15th October The second day of the horse endurance trials. Come down to see the riders setting off and arriving back from the races and to see the vets and officials at work.

28th October 10am-11pm It's Gostilitsa Gourd Mania time again. On the previous day there is likely to be an arts workshop where you can decorate gourds for an exhibition, and then on the Saturday there will be the chance to see a wide range of singers, dancers, plays, exhibitions etc in the theatre.

The community centre (читалище) is the pink coloured building in the main square.  It houses a resource room with access to three computers and the internet for anyone in the village.  There are regular exhibitions of folklore and culture and many events throughout the year linked to the numerous holidays and celebrations in Bulgaria.

This page has information about up and coming events so please check back regularly and if you are in Gostilitsa be sure to come along.  You will be made very welcome!

Unless otherwise stated, everything is free of charge.

Open Daily: 8am - 12 noon

                     1pm -  5pm (occasionally may close earlier)

This is located up the steps leading to the Post Office (the same side of the square as the school).  Go up the steps but stay on the very right hand side. You will see a door here which initially leads into a very small shop area with a few tables. Continue through into the larger back room which is where some of the village events are held.

Below is a list of what you can see in the entrance foyer of the community centre building:

Lots of photos and archive material from bygone days in Gostilitsa. Would you believe the square once contained farm buildings? Go along to the community centre and see the evidence for yourself!
